Title: Get down, soldier!!!
Post by: Soda on September 17, 2011, 01:33:13 AM
We're being invaded by newfags and squeakers. What should we do? I think we should lock the TF2 server and make a recruiting server, or have admin shifts where admins can have shifts supervising the server. Any ideas?

Seriously. Last night in particular. 2 things:

1) Even though when I got on the squeakers were muted, they bitched about being muted because their kids even though its in the rules-If you have an annoying voice, you will be muted.

2) The (8-10?) year olds hating on Tober for muting them.

If they want to bitch and complain it's their problem since all they  have to do is request to be unmuted, that is if their voice isn't that  bad. Just send them here or ask us to come in while they're on and we will just tell them over voip why they are muted and won't get unmuted.

Ninny is on mostly at night since he's on the west cost, as for Turbo I'm not sure when he's on normally. Shifts have been talked about before, but due to people working, especially Static now, we can't always be on. This is why when people need help I try to pop in to clear the server of problems.

I can be summoned at any time for moderation purposes; I would be on more often if I didn't have all this studying to do.

That's why I stay on Steam in case of problems.

So it seems Ninny is the only one normally on each day, wile the rest of us are on call.

If anyone has problems please message us if you see us on Steam so we can resolve problems quickly.

They were removed, thanks to Tober. But when I type !votemute it says:"[SM] You do not have access to this command."

People were abusing it like they did the last time so it has been shut off indefinitely. If people don't want to learn to use it correctly then they can't use it.

It would have been nice to keep it, but with all the kids trying to mute the normal guys because they have to be muted or they justs want to do it for fun.

or we could just call them normals. i mean why should they be given a speical title. i mean most normals no not to abuse it. or another idea could be like people take a test for the right to beable to use it.

From what I understand about the system is it's the whole server has access to it or no one.

See the problem is most of the plugins are old and also they don't have a system to control groups of people. If anything Static would have to appoint moderators with some type of vote initiation privileges for muting. Which brings me to another problem I'm not sure how the system divides the votes up. Meaning If people can start a vote mute you may also be able to start a vote kick or ban, which is something best left to the administrators to decide.

If it was like Minecraft it would me much less complex of a problem.

The funny thing is there is really only 1 or 2 places to get plugins for TF2. Amasing how Steam is so widely used, and TF2 is a highly played game and there is such a big void when it comes to plugins for servers.

When Unreal Tournament 2004 was really big, in a way it still is, there was over 20 sites besides the main, company, forum to get mods and everything else you needed to run the server. It's like a sin to make anything for TF2 or Valve, I really don't get why a major PC game is so hard to find useful info for.

I can't blame them I blame Valve for making games unmodifiable. PC gaming thrives on modifications, look at Minecraft, it's the next Unreal 2K4. Even the community behind it is getting to that size.

Wait, what?

There are like a bajillion game-breaking mods for HL2 and TF2. Half-Mind? Cat Life? The Stanley Parable? Garry's Mod!?

Don't even get me started on the WarioWare mod.

The game doesn't come with mod support though, it's as if it's unimportant. Something as simple as a mod because a chore when you have to turn it off to play on some servers. With real mod support you wouldn't have to turn it off to play online since most games can tell the difference between a mod for single player and multiplayer.

Garry's mod is the only thing that is useful out of the Valve camp and they didn't even make it. Even Counter Strike was a mod that they took and turned into a game sold by Valve.

The Steam community doesn't even have a Mod section on the forums, what type of company is this if they want to keep PC gaming going with an old engine and little to no mod support. If Steam wants to grow they need to get their act strait. Make an API so that people can tie into the chat system. When looking for skins they should put a link in place, like "Get more", to get skins instead of searching for them on the net.

I left Steam long ago because of the hell they put gamers though, I only came back to play with friends. If Steam was made for gamers it would have at least over 10 Million members signing in each day. I consider XFire to be so much more gamer friendly, it has built in support for everything you could think of.

Well, JJJ may have done away with !votemute, but Tober kept kicking and banning me because I didn't listen to him. I wasn't breaking any rules; he was commanding everyone around like he's admin. He took advantage fo admin powers that were trusted to us to use for his own self.

He was never admin, so I'm assuming this had to do with the vote kick.

I like how you refer to him as it.

It wasn't just him though a lot of people played their part in getting the different types of votes turned off.

Since people can't handle themselves and the influx of free players which are mostly under 15. Everyone just wants to play around with it instead of using it for serious matters.

I guess everyone likes the server so much, they look at !votekick/mute/gag as an opportunity to take a piece of admin powers to themselves.

That's why we turn them off. People want to kick, mute, or ban for many reasons. Which may include your language, you may kill them to much so they think you hacked, you can't shoot if your life depended on it, or you just plain pissed them off so they want to get back at you.

Well, it ain't my fault that they suck ass. I enjoy watching them cry, whine and bitch so hard that their keyboard is smashed to smithereens. Letting them kick/ban/mute/gag me is just icing on the cake, but I'm not telling you that you should put it on. I really love watching 12 year olds cry to their mom that their ass is getting butt f*cked in a video game (Sorry about the censor. Little kids and their mommys gonna read this)

Nothing is censored on this site, most kids know how to curse now a days. I just let them bitch and whine and when it's really annoying I mute them for myself. Plus when they start doing this they slip up more then they normally do so that means more kills for everyone.

I would love to see a car worth $30.

Anyway I would like people to be vigilante on the server. Meaning if you can record a video of anything that shouldn't be happening on the server please do so and make a new thread for each incident, unless it's the same person then keep it to a single thread.
