Title: Okay, this is the last straw...
Post by: Soda on October 08, 2011, 11:49:55 PM
Okay, my little brother (10 years old) has been going onto my tf2, going into the UA server, and trying to get me banned (but he doesn't know the first thing to do, but that doesn't mean he won't try anything and everything). He know how to cuss and talk all badass, so it's not going to be easy to recognize him from me. Today, he abused the adminalert which got me gagged, so just to let you know, that I am taking full responsibility for that, but I did not directly cause that (indirecty because he has some kind of grudge). So anyway, I'm sorry for the abuse to the server, but if this goes on, please tell me: what he did/said, what time it happened, date, and the logs of it. So again, sorry about this and any other things that he or even I did, but know I am trying to prevent that

Changing your passwords seems like a good idea.

Yeah that, or take the monitor cord with you when you're away, he'll be able to turn the computer on, but not see what he's doing. Hopefully it isn't a family computer.

Simple things to do to stop it from happening.

1. Change your email password and make sure your browser doesn't save it, so he can't use that to get the password for Steam.
(If you use Gmail and have an Android phone you can use the Google Authenticator for extra security)
2. Change your Steam password.
3. Make sure Steam doesn't save your password, even go as far as making sure it doesn't start with windows.
4. If it's not a family PC change password or even make a BIOS password, it won't even start for him without that.
(If it is a family system make a new account just for you.)
5. Lock the computer when your away or just log out of Steam

This is only a basic way to protect yourself. I'm sure there is more on the web that will make it harder for him to get in.

Sorry to hear that Soda, but I also have a brother that's 10 and gets on the TF2 server. I've told him not to be a douche and not to use the mic when he's on. All he does differently is he command spams and simply doesn't act like I would. So if anyone sees me on and I don't talk and command spam, its not "me".

My only advice is to password protect your computer's user account and log out of it whenever you leave the computer for any period of time long enough for the underdeveloped ones to take control.

While most of the administrators who watch the server will be able to tell, it's no excuse for them getting into your account. One thing I don't like is when someone is using another persons account, because it means very hard decisions need to be made.

Thanks, I just did that. BTW, I've done everything to protect it except hiring armed security team, turning my house into Alcatraz, and putting my bro in a glass box with bread and water.

Doesn't sound like such a bad idea.

Time to send out the local PD since they like to protect anyone with cash.

If you can drive on water by all means go ahead.

Why don't you pack her in a cardboard box and mail her to austria? Don't forget the bread and water!

How about bread soaked in water?

A sponge that's soaked in water is a better alternative.

My brother sometimes goes into the server but under his own Steam. (Rainbow Crash). Don't worry, he's not a douche, on the contrary he's pretty good. Anyway, that sucks, Soda, but that's little brothers for ya. Hope things get better for ya, man.

See this is the way it should be, everyone have there own account. This is why I loved games back in the day, you would get 1 key that was good for 5 or more people to play with.

Agreed, Dragon. He was actually on today with me (Rainbow Crash was his name), and he prefers not to use the mic, but even then, he's not really a squeaker (He's 14)

So long as they use their account I don't mind since it will be easy to pinpoint the person of interest.

Thanks. I've made 5 passwords and a block against downloads that hack in Steam passwords

Good plan, Soda. That or if he insists on playing, urge him to make his own Steam if he hasn't, since TF2 is free now. Of course, if he really is a little dirt bag, he'll probably be kicked in 10 seconds flat.

Otherwise, nice job fortifying your account.
